What is the Greenwich Fire Dept?
The Greenwich Fire Department is a combination fire department in Greenwich, Connecticut, with about 100 career firefighters and 120 volunteer firefighters operating from eight stations. The department responds to roughly 4,000 emergency calls each year, including fire alarms, car accidents, technical rescues, dive rescues, structure fires, and other emergencies.

Amogerone Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (Station 1 Central)
Operates Greenwich’s mobile breathing-air unit, which refills and supports firefighters’ SCBA cylinders at fires and other hazardous-atmosphere incidents.
Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company (Station 2 Cos Cob)
Provides structural firefighting, rescue and additional water-supply support using its squad and tanker apparatus.
Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol (Station 2 Cos Cob)
Focuses on traffic control, road closures, and maintaining a safe working area around emergency scenes.
Byram Volunteer Fire Department (Station 3 Byram)
Provides structural firefighting and traffic support operating volunteer squad apparatus.
Glenville Volunteer Fire Company (Station 4 Glenville)
Provides aerial-ladder operations, fire suppression and brush fire support through Ladder 4, Engine 41 and Squad 4.
Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department (Station 5 Sound Beach)
Specializes in heavy technical rescue, including confined-space, trench, collapse, high-angle, dive and water-rescue operations.
Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company (Station 6 Round Hill)
Specializes in rural water supply and backcountry operations, including tanker shuttles, and off-road responses in areas without hydrants.

Q: Do I need prior experience?
A: No. The department welcomes volunteers of all skill levels and abilities and provides all the necessary training and certification courses.
Q: What benefits do volunteers receive?
A: Medical coverage, life insurance, uniforms, training stipends, paid fire watch for town and private functions, opportunities for advancement, property tax savings of up to $1,000 (home or auto), and $7.50 reimbursement per emergency response.
Q: How much time does it take?
A: Volunteers respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and there are evening and weekend opportunities — so you can serve around your existing job or schedule.
Q: Who can join?
A: Civic-minded Greenwich residents of all skill levels. Generally you should be at least 18 and able to meet basic physical fitness standards; the department provides the training.
Q: How many stations and volunteers are there?
A: The department operates 8 stations with over 120 volunteer firefighters alongside 100 career firefighters, answering roughly 4,000 emergency calls each year.
